Unplug to Connect
I know, it sounds counter intuitive, right? It’s really not. I experienced it first hand last year while on a trip to the Cook Islands. Honestly, this was not something I did by choice!! Let me explain…
We found ourselves without wifi, no phone service, and no way to even plug in to charge our devices (we didn’t think about needing an adapter). THERE WAS NOTHING TO DO.
It was Sunday and EVERYTHING WAS CLOSED. Wow. Initially I was frustrated and angry - after all, I had blogs to write! Recipes to look through! Books to read on my phone! I had all this free time to catch up on things, now what?! This ranting in my head went on for a good hour, until…..I surrendered.
I took some deep breaths. I looked and the teal water sparkling in the sun. Reminded myself, "oh yah, I’m on vacation." What if I do nothing, just BE? When was the last time I allowed that? When was the last time you did?
I let my mind slow down; released the frenetic energy that littered my experience. I tapped into what was going on with my body, my spirit, my disposition.
I started giving thanks for everything that was before me - the opportunity to travel to somewhere new, the amazing variety of crabs scooting across the sand. My heart opened up to the blessing of just BEing -no guilt, no to do lists, just BEING IN THE MOMENT. It was magical.
In the quiet, I connected to myself, and to my Source. I had to unplug to connect. Give yourself an hour or a day to totally unplug - no phones, TV, activities, just BEing. You’re gonna love it!
