Spicy and Good

We all know that sometimes “what’s good for you” can sometimes mean it's either bland or boring. Adding an ingredient that spices it up is transformational.

Take exercise, for instance. It’s absolutely good for you, but may not be very fun or exciting (unless it’s skiing or biking). I find that playing my favorite songs while I exercise literally makes me want to move; it takes it from blah to BOOM!

Just as spices are imperative in creating delicious meals, having ingredients that spice up your life are just as important. Some examples:

  • Spontaneity - getting out of your normal routine

  • Laughter - you cannot be sad and laugh at the same time

  • Adventures/Travel - seeing how other people live, and what they value is such an education.

  • Doing something that scares you (For me, it’s scuba diving. I’m always glad after I do it, but I’m always scared before the dive.) What’s something that challenges or scares you that adds depth to your life?

  • Learn a new language. I have been studying Hawaiian and Japanese for years. It has expanded my way of thinking. I am enriched and a better human because of it.

  • Fun Friends - OMG. Fun friends are such a blessing. They make life worth living.

  • Service. Service may not be spicy or adventurous, but it is like eating a nice stew that warms you from the inside out.

Trying new things and new food! I am so blessed to live in Hawaii and have access to a myriad of different foods. I love eating Indian food with my fingers, and slurping up Japanese noodles on purpose. Just thinking about it makes me happy.

May you always have these things to spice up your life and bring you joy.
